Recount in Alves primary upset planned

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (AP/WPRI) - An apparent upset in the primary elections.

A powerful senator from West Warwick is trailing in his Democratic primary race by a very thin margin.

Unofficial returns Tuesday night showed Michael Pinga leading Stephen Alves, chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, by 17 votes.

Eyewitness News  has learned a recount is scheduled for Monday at the Rhode Island Board of Elections.
