PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI/AP) - A second recount at the state Board of Elections Friday still has Michael Pinga defeating West Warwick Sen. Stephen Alves.
Pinga, a former Republican, changed parties this year and apparently beat Alves, a powerful incumbent, in September's primary.
The recounts came after the state Supreme Court ordered election officials to recount all the provisional, mail-in and regular ballots cast for that race the Democratic primary.
An earlier recount showed Pinga winning by 19 votes. At the time, the board did not recount mail-in and provisional ballots.
Friday's recount has Pinga winning by 18 votes.
Alves is vowing to continue his fight in the courts.
