CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - Cranston police are investigating an incident that left one of their officers hurt.
According to police, the incident began with a traffic stop initiated by an officer from the Cranston Police Department in the area of Dyer Avenue and Cranston Street around 11:40 Wednesday night.
As the officer approached the vehicle, the suspect began to drive off and struck the officer. He got up and fired at the car as it sped off.
A short time later Providence Police and the Rhode Island State Police responded to the area of Terrace Avenue in Providence where the suspect's car and the people inside were found.
The officer and the suspects were all taken to Rhode Island Hospital for their injuries. Eyewitness News has learned all were released after being treated.
Police are not releasing the names yet of the officer involved or the suspects. The attorney general's office are also investigating.
There are no charges filed at this time, that will happen once State Police complete their investigation.
