ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) - Interstate 95 in Attleboro should be back to normal today after being closed much of Thursday by a fuel spill.
Residents of 14 nearby homes who were evacuated as a precaution after the accident have been allowed to return home.
State police say a car lost control and collided with the tanker in the southbound lanes shortly before 5 a.m. The truck was delivering about 11,000 gallons of jet fuel to T.F. Green Airport in Rhode Island and about a third of the fuel spilled when the truck rolled over.
Firefighters poured foam on the truck and the roadway to prevent the fuel from igniting.
The accident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed against the driver of the car, 21-year-old Andrew Tavarez of East Providence. Tavarez, a female passenger, 19-year-old Hope Amaral, and the truck driver, 37-year-old Michael Cowan of Northbridge, were all treated for minor injuries.
