WAKEFIELD, R.I. (AP) - A Warwick man on probation for failing to register as a sex offender has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for propositioning two teenage girls on a beach this summer.
A judge says Paul Stockford has a "serious problem" that he hasn't addressed and sent him to prison where he will undergo counseling.
Stockford was accused of violating the terms of a May 2008 two-year suspended sentence for failing to register as a sex offender when he moved from Warren to Warwick.
Prosecutors say Stockford was at Scarborough State Beach in August when he asked the girls to help him take his bathing suit off and asked them to take theirs off.
Stockford, who has a history of lewd and lascivious behavior, said in court that he needed help.
