PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Gov. Don Carcieri must soon decide whether to support or veto a stack of bills passed by Rhode Island lawmakers during a frenzied special session.
Legislative leaders were expected to start sending Carcieri bills Monday that their members approved last week.
The Republican can sign a bill to make it law or allow it to take effect without his signature. He can also veto legislation, sending it back to lawmakers. Democrats hold enough votes to override Carcieri's vetoes.
The governor has said he will support a bill banning indoor prostitution in Rhode Island, the only state besides parts of Nevada where it's legal. The social conservative must decide whether he'll block legislation allowing gay couples to make funeral arrangements for their late partners.
