PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A former clerk at the Rhode Island Division of Motor Vehicles has been sentenced to three years in prison for making fake drivers' licenses that were sold to illegal immigrants and criminals.
A federal judge sentenced Dolores Rodriguez LaFlamme on Friday on charges of conspiracy and producing fraudulent identity documents.
Prosecutors argued at trial that LaFlamme, who was convicted in November, made 35 fake drivers' licenses that she then sold through middlemen for as much as $2,700.
LaFlamme's lawyer had said another employee had LaFlamme's computer password and used it to create the phony licenses.
LaFlamme, who is from the Dominican Republic, has been detained since her October 2007 arrest by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
