Bomb Squad called to St. Luke's Hospital

Suspicious package found outside the hospital

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) - Bomb squad, State Police, and local police and fire stations are responding to St. Luke's Hospital to investigate a suspicious package.

Police tell Eyewitness News crews were called to the scene to investigate a package that ended up being empty after a woman who was in a heated discussion on an online blog about the burning of the Koran in Florida found an abandoned package outside her home.  While no threats were made against her, when she saw an empty case in front of her house she became worried it may have been some sort of a bomb directed at her. 

Police tell Eyewitness News three homes were evacuated during their investigation into what was inside the case.
