PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island Gov. Don Carcieri has nominated new members for the revamped board of the state's Economic Development Corporation.

Among the dozen people appointed Tuesday are Alfred Verrecchia, chairman of the board at Hasbro Inc.; David Dooley, president of the University of Rhode Island and Stephen Lane, CEO of Ximedica.

The appointments are subject to Senate confirmation. The EDC is tasked with spurring business and investment in a state with nearly 13 percent unemployment.

Lawmakers passed legislation last year consolidating the corporation's leadership after a review panel called it ineffective.

Carcieri has selected Keith Stokes, the former head of the Newport County Chamber of Commerce, to serve as the EDC's executive director.
