WINDHAM, Conn. (AP) - The state Department of Environmental Protection says cleaning up a derailment of four freight train cars in Windham, Connecticut will likely be completed Friday morning.
The 80-car train was traveling from North Dakota to Providence, when the four rear cars jumped the tracks Thursday morning. Three of the cars rolled down an embankment.
Environmental officials say all the cars had ethanol. Officials earlier said one car carried ethanol.
Three cars that fell over will be pumped out and are being removed from the area. A fourth car that derailed but remained upright will be placed back on the tracks.Environmental officials said none leaked ethanol.
Providence & Worcester Railroad spokeswoman Marie Angelini said no injuries were reported.
Local officials say they weren't notified until about 7:30 a.m., more than three hours after the derailment.
Equipment is being brought in to put the cars back on the tracks or haul them away.
Seventy-one cars continued on to Providence.
The rail line serves only freight so no passenger trains are affected.
