PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Fundraising by General Treasurer Frank Caprio, a Democrat, has given him a two-to-one financial advantage over his nearest opponent in the race for Rhode Island governor.
New reports show Caprio raised almost $196,000 in contributions during the three-month period ending in December. After expenses, that brought his campaign account to roughly $1.5 million.
His opponent in the Democratic primary, Attorney General Patrick Lynch, ended the year with more than $620,000 in the bank.
Former Senator Lincoln Chafee, an independent, loaned his campaign $200,000, bringing his total campaign cash to more than $396,000. Republican John Robitaille joined the race last month and doesn't need to file until April 30th.
