Four holdup incidents Saturday

Needle among weapons used

(WPRI) - Pawtucket, Cranston and East Providence Police are all searching for suspects in violent holdups -- two that were unsuccessful -- that happened Saturday afternoon and evening.

Pawtucket: Needle was weapon of threat

Around 3:00 p.m. Saturday, as surveillance camera photos show, a white male in his thirties, between 5'9" and 5'11" tall walked into the Gulf Express on East Avenue in Pawtucket and brandished a hypodermic needle, demanding cash.

Minutes earlier, Pawtucket Police said the same man had tried to rob the Broadway Market with the same syringe.

At both stores, police said the clerks told off the crook and refused to give him cash. Police are still looking for the man.

Cranston: Suspect was older, had leather jacket

Over in Cranston, police said a white male in his late fifties or early sixties walked into the X-Tra Mart on Atwood Avenue around 6:00 p.m., stealing cash and stabbing the clerk.

The surveillance camera at that store showed the man had silver or white and black hair, and wore a leather coat and glasses.

Police called rescue crews when they responded to the store and found the stabbed clerk. The clerk was rushed to Rhode Island Hospital. Saturday night, police wouldn't release the clerk's identity and did not have details about his medical status.

There's no word how much cash the robber got.

Riverside: Drugstore hit

East Providence Police are investigating an armed holdup about 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Rite Aid drugstore on Willet Avenue in Riverside. They couldn't confirm many details about the suspect or the incident, but did say the robber was still on the loose -- and that nobody was hurt.
