PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Captain Vincent D'Ambra has delivered more than a dozen babies during his career. But on Thursday morning - labor complications and timing forced the Providence EMT to spring into action like never before.

18-year old India Everett woke up early Thursday morning with contractions so strong - her baby's head was already crowning when rescuers arrived.

"I was like, oh my Gosh, I can't believe I'm having this baby on my couch." said Everett.

After her mom called 911 - Providence EMT- captain Vincent D'Ambra ran inside the Everett's Concord Street apartment - with just seconds to spare.

"As soon as we got there, she was ready to have the baby. You could see the top of the baby's head as soon as we walked in the door." said D'Ambra.

Everett pushed - but baby Julius came out with the umbilical cord around his neck. As the newborn changed color - D'Ambra worked quickly to maneuver his shoulders and untangle the infant.

"It really happened so quick that I didn't have much time to think but I just made sure it came out and it worked that way." said D'Ambra

Baby Julius is happy and healthy at home. Everett tells us she looks forward to telling her son about his unusual birth and the hero who brought him into the world
