FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (WPRI) - A Wareham, Mass. man was seriously hurt in an accident on Route 195 in Fairhaven Tuesday morning.
According Massachusetts State Police, Alcidia Pereira, 25, of New Bedford was driving a Dodge Stratus in the eastbound lanes when she lost control around 9:55 a.m. The car then crossed the median and travelled into the westbound lanes, where it struck a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by Robert Cavanaugh, 47, of Wareham.
Cavanaugh suffered serious injuries and was med-flighted to Rhode Island Hospital , police said. Pereira and her two passengers were taken to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. The extent of their injuries is unknown. The driver of a third vehicle involved was not hurt, police said.
Troopers closed down a portion of the interstate for more than an hour while they investigated. The road was reopened by 11:15 a.m.
