PROVIDENCE, .R.I. (WPRI) - Lt. Governor Elizabeth H. Roberts filed a Declaration of Candidacy with the Secretary of State's Office on Monday., marking her bid for re-election to the office of Lieutenant Governor.

"I am running for re-election to continue advocating for small businesses. RI companies are the backbone of our state's economy and they deserve support from their state to make it easier for them to do business here, especially during these difficult economic times. I will be an effective partner with these businesses, protecting them now and growing jobs for the future," stated Roberts.

Roberts, a Democrat, was inaugurated as the 68th lieutenant governor of Rhode Island on January 2, 2007, making history as the first woman elected to the position.

Another Democrat, Senator John Tassoni has also announced that he's entered the race, along with Cool Moose candidate Bob Healy and Jean Ann Guliano of the Moderate Party.
