TORTOLA, BVI (WPRI) - David Swain, a former Jamestown Town Councilor has been convicted of murdering his wife Shelley Tyre while scuba diving in Tortola back in 1999.
Swain has been sentenced to serve 25 behind bars in Tortola for the murder. Now, Swain's daughter is doing everything she can to spare him a life sentence.
Swain's daughter wants a jury to hear the details of his traumatic past. As the Providence Journal reported, 33 years ago, David's brother, Richard, bludgeoned their mother to death.
Another traumatic experience came years earlier when Swain's father ran off to become a woman.
Swain's attorney says they are appealing the conviction.
