10 DUI arrests made during holiday weekend

SCITUATE, R.I. (WPRI) -- With additional patrols over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, campaigning to "Click It or Ticket," to keep Rhode Islanders buckled up, Rhode Island State Police made ten arrests on charges of driving under the influence. One was from outside the state, and one isn't old enough to be drinking.

They were:

• Angel O. Rodriguez, 41, Providence
• Jeronimo Gonzalez, 25, Providence
• Kirk A. Sollars, 42, Warwick
• David A. Cormier, 53, Riverside
• Kevin T. Mann, 19, Providence
• Miguel A. Lopez, 30, East Providence
• Pablo Tavarez, 31, Providence
• Joshua J. Laperle, 28, Pawtucket
• Stephen D. Rather, 32, West Warwick
• Brian D. Chamberlain, 59, East Douglas, MA

"We would have preferred that the impaired drivers chose not to operate a motor vehicle and put themselves and others at great risk," State Police superintendent Col. Steven G. O'Donnell said in a news release Tuesday.

The additional patrols targeted speeders and intoxicated drivers as well as child restraint and seat belt violators.

214 summonses were issued for seatbelt for child restraint violations over the weekend. There were also 41 motor vehicle crashes investigated. None of the crashes ended in a fatality, the police said.

The funding for the additional patrols was obtained through the Rhode Island Department of Transportation's Office on Highway Safety.
