DOUGLAS, Mass. (AP) — A Rhode Island man has been charged with drunken driving and motor vehicle homicide in connection with a
weekend crash in Massachusetts that took the life of his girlfriend.
Police say 47-year-old Robert Grenier of North Smithfield, R.I., was arrested Wednesday in connection with the Saturday crash in Douglas, which resulted in the death of Patricia Gurka.
Grenier is scheduled to appear Thursday in Uxbridge District Court.
Police responding to reports of an accident just after 5 p.m. Saturday found Grenier's car on its roof. The 47-year-old Gurka was ejected and pronounced dead.
Grenier told police he was the passenger, but police believe he was driving.
The
Telegram & Gazette reports that police say Grenier was driving 90 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone and struck a utility pole.
