NORTH SCITUATE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island State Police say they arrested 32 drivers for allegedly driving under the influence during a nearly three-week campaign to crack down on drunken driving.

Col. Steven O'Donnell, the state police superintendent, said Wednesday that authorities made just over 2,900 motor vehicle stops and issued nearly 2,200 citations for various traffic offenses during the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign. Thirty-two drivers were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence.

The campaign ran from Aug. 17 through Labor Day.

Police say the campaign also targeted speeders, aggressive drivers, those who text while driving and those not wearing seat belts.
