PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Police have identified the man whose body was found over the weekend inside a running car in the West End of Providence.

The Providence Journal reports that police identified the victim as 27-year-old Robert Ballew of Providence.

Police Chief Hugh Clements was quoted as saying the killing is not believed to have been random, but Clements declined to comment on why the man may have been targeted.

The newspaper reported that Central Falls police charged Ballew earlier this year with carrying a firearm without a license and resisting arrest. He was out on bail.

Ballew was found at about 3 a.m. Saturday inside a car on Palm Court with a bullet in his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Providence has had 13 homicides this year.
