15 years for fmr. PC player in assault

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- A judge has sentenced former Providence College basketball player James Still to fifteen years in prison after he pleaded guilty to the felony of assaulting a fellow student.

Still will serve four years, with the remaining sentence suspended with probation.

The decision came Tuesday morning from Judge Netti Vogel, after Still entered a guilty plea back in November.

He and another former teammate, Johnnie Lacy, were charged with beating Yerkin Abdrakhmanov back in 2010 in an unprovoked, random act of violence. Police said the two had chosen their victim at random -- deciding to attack the next male they saw. Abdrakhmanov suffered a broken nose, a broken eye socket, and several other serious injuries.

Still and Lacy were arrested after a description from an eyewitness, and were found with blood -- on Lacy's shirt, and Still's hands. They were suspended from the college after the incident and were banned from campus pending a school investigation.

Lacy is serving a three-year sentence at the ACI in Cranston.
