Police turn to Facebook in cold case

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) -- Police in Cranston are hoping to crack a decades old cold case by turning to Facebook for new leads.

Donna Fisher was found strangled 26 years ago inside her home. The victim's son, Robert Fisher, and his mother's best friend, Linda Dale, said not a day goes by where they don't think about Donna.

Fisher was murdered just three days before her 39th birthday and her killer has never been found.

But, now Cranston police and Fisher's family hope a new Facebook page will generate a lead in her cold case.

"We had heard about what happened in Warwick, how they were able to solve one of their cases using Facebook and we're extremely hopeful something is going to come of it," said Robert Fisher, the victim's son.

The Facebook page was launched on December 3 and it already has 200 "Likes."

"Somebody out there knows something, somebody out there and the more people we can get to go on the webpage the more people are going to see it and somebody is going to remember something," said Linda Dale.

Robert Fisher said so far there have been no new leads, but family members remain hopeful.

"It's been horrible, we've gone through so many ups and downs.  You build your hopes up on something then it just comes crashing down. It's not easy."
