NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI)--Police arrested a man on Wednesday night who allegedly robbed a Bank of Newport branch.
Officials say Thomas N. Shellman, of North Kingstown carried out the crime where he handed the bank teller a note warning her that a bank robbery was about to occur and demanded money.
Detectives executed a search warrant in Shellman’s home where various clues were found, including the dark overcoat and grey winter hat he wore during the robbery. Police found cash on Shellman and confirmed that he was the robber.
Shellman is expected to be arraigned on one count of first degree robbery and one count of receiving stolen goods.
