PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) – A 15-year veteran police officer is facing domestic violence charges.
The police department announced on Tuesday the arrest of 40-year-old Stephen Ricco.
Ricco is facing four misdemeanor charges, including one count of domestic simple assault, and three counts of domestic disorderly conduct.
"It's never a good day for the city when you have an officer that has been sworn to protect and serve be involved in an alleged domestic violence issue," said Antonio Pires, the Pawtucket Mayor's Chief of Staff.
Police say the alleged victim in the case was not seriously injured.
Ricco is now free on personal recognizance, and is currently on sick leave from the police force.
