Cihat pleads guilty to bail violation

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) - A South Kingstown man has been ordered to enter an in-patient alcohol treatment program after his fourth DUI arrest in less than five years.

David Cihat, 42, appeared before a Newport District Court judge Tuesday morning on charges he violated bail by allegedly driving drunk on the morning of July 4.

Cihat pleaded guilty to charges of violating bail. In admitting he violated bail, his bail would be revoked for 13 days -- retroactive to July 4 -- under an agreement with the Attorney General's office.

His bail was reinstated at $10,000 with surety, on the condition that he enters a residential treatment program for alcoholism. He's also barred from driving.

In the July 4 incident, police said he'd been driving very erratically on Rt. 24 in Tiverton, and failed a field sobriety test. He was previously pulled over and charged with driving drunk on May 18.

Though he pleaded no contest to DUI charges in 2009 and 2007 as well, there's no evidence that he served prison time after his second incident, as state law dictates.
