NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) - Police said the man stabbed in New Bedford late Tuesday night met his assailant on a phone party line.
The 25-year-old victim remains in critical condition at Rhode Island Hospital, after being stabbed with a six-inch long chef's knife in his Tinkham Street apartment.
Police said they discovered the weapon in the kitchen sink.
Officers arrested Luis Torres, 28, of 648 S. First St., and charged him with assault with intent to murder, as well as being a fugitive from justice. His vehicle was found late Wednesday night in Nashua, NH.
Police tell us the two men knew each other prior to the incident, and they're now investigating what may have caused the argument that lead to the stabbing.
