PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A Providence man accused of killing his baby daughter appeared in court Wednesday.
Christopher Jimenez, 36, faces charges of second-degree murder and child abuse , from the horrifying incident last summer.
Prosecutors said Jimenez murdered his eight week old daughter Christina Jimenez.
In court Wednesday, a prosecutor revealed the extent of the injuries.
“Those injuries include at least four skull fractures, 27 rib fractures, clavicle and pelvis fractures, two arm fractures, six leg fractures, a liver laceration,” said Shannon Signore, prosecutor.
The prosecutor said Christina died as a result of 50 injuries, from repeated injuries during her first five weeks of life.
“The defendant did give a statement to police indicating that on June 19, 2012 he had placed the baby back in her crib, barely breathing,” added Signore.
The little girl died after several weeks at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
While she fought for her life, her mother and her uncle defended her father.
“She fell out of the blankets. She hit the coffee table and then she hit the rug floor,” said Mayra Gonzalez, mother of murder victim.
“I just don’t want people to think that he’s a horrible person because he’s not,” added Gear Jimenez, uncle of Christina Jimenez.
After the interviews with Eyewitness News, the baby’s mother was charged with cruelty and neglect.
A judge ordered Christopher Jimenez held in prison without bail until his trial.
