PROVIDENCE R.I. (WPRI) – A local man was sentenced on Tuesday for the murder of his friend.

Travis Garcia, 21, was sentenced to 65 years with 50 to serve at the ACI for the murder of 32-year-old Jeannine Garcia, the remaining 15 years suspended with probation. He pleaded guilty to second degree murder in June.

According to the Office of the Attorney General, had this case gone to trial, the state was ready to prove that on November 7, 2009, Travis Garcia visited Jeannine in her Providence apartment. Once he was inside he tied, bound, and strangled her. He then stuffed her body in a closet and drove around in her car with his friends as if nothing had happened.

Later that evening, while driving alone in Connecticut, Travis Garcia was involved in a car accident. Police discovered Jeannine’s body when they went to inform her that her car had been crushed.
