WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) – An intoxicated driver was arrested after driving the wrong way on a busy highway.

Police received a call at 1:41 a.m. on February 13, saying an intoxicated person was driving the wrong way on Route 295 South in Cumberland.

Police arrived at the scene and found the vehicle stuck in a snow bank in the center median at Exit 10. The driver was identified as Samantha Medeiros, 26, from West Warwick and appeared highly impaired.

Medeiros was arrested and charged with Driving under the Influence of Liquor and Drugs (BAC: first reading .171% / second reading .173%).

She was also charged with a laned roadway violation and one way highway-driving wrong way violation.

The Rhode Island State Police will continue to enforce the motor vehicle laws with increased emphasis on speeding, driving while impaired, aggressive driving, texting violations, seatbelt, and child restraint violations.

Motorists can immediately report dangerous drivers or hazardous roadway conditions to the police by dialing 911 or *77.
