Board gives new OK to killer's release

Brissette to be let out, but still don't know when

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) -- The R.I. Parole Board voted unanimously Monday to uphold a decision from last June to release so-called "thrill" killer Alfred Brissette from prison.

Parole board administrator Matthew Degnan tells Target 12 an exact release date has not been set yet, but Brissette will be freed when his “post-release” plan is approved.

Brissette, 39, of Woonsocket, pleaded no contest to murder charges in the 1999 killing of Jeanette Descoteaux. As Target 12 has been reporting, he's now likely to be released from prison without serving his full 35-year sentence.

Brissette was set to be released in December, but the plan fell through after a series of Target 12 investigations revealed his pending freedom.

Inmates seeking parole must present the board with details describing where they will live and work - or go to school - if they are released. The board also considers several factors including the crime itself and the inmate's disciplinary record in prison.
