PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- A former assistant soccer coach at Chariho High School pleaded guilty Tuesday to child pornography charges.
Glen Matteson, 52, of Richmond, faces a minimum mandatory sentence of five years and up to 60 years in federal prison.
He was arrested back in February and was accused of sending sexually explicit text messages to a young boy.
The boy's parents contacted police after their son allegedly received inappropriate messages from Matteson.
With the consent of the boy's parents, police posed as the young boy and exchanged a series of text messages with Matteson, according to police.
Investigators said the content was sexual in nature and arrested him on a charge of indecent solicitation of a child.
During the police investigation, in addition to discovering numerous text messages and emails containing sexually explicit messages, a forensic search of Matteson's cell phone and computers, resulted in the discovery of 898 images and 73 videos depicting child pornography.
He pleaded guilty to to one count each of receipt, possession and distribution of child pornography.
Matteson will be sentenced on February 8, 2013.
