CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) -- A Central Falls man is under arrest after firing a rifle at a neighboring home on Valley Street.
Major James Mendonca tells Eyewitness News that nobody was injured in the shooting which targeted an apartment at 151 Valley Street, which happened at about 1:45 Sunday morning.
21 year-old James Avila of 139 Valley Street was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Commit a Felony, three counts of Felony Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and Firing in a Compact Area.
Mendonca says three people were inside the home at the time, including a three-year old child.
Police describe the weapon used as a .223 rifle, based on shell casings that detectives recovered at the scene. It's unclear how many rounds Avila fired.
Avila was brought before a bail commissioner and is being held on $75,000 bail with surety pending his arraignment in Providence District Court on Tuesday.
Mendonca declined to release any information on the motive or the circumstances of the shooting until detectives completed their investigation.
