CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) - Cranston residents are taking action as they held their first Neighborhood Crime Watch meeting.

It's a new community policing model being started to help the city's new police chief.

City leaders, law enforcement officers and residents gathered together Thursday night to discuss different ways to combat neighborhood crime.

Members hope the Central Cranston Crime Watch will help keep crime off the streets.

The group will cover the areas between Blackamore and Reservoir Avenues, Routes 10 to 95 and up Hodsell Street to Pontiac Avenue.

The organizers hopes any success will inspire other groups to form across the city.
