NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) -- The Coast Guard says an estimated 250 gallons of diesel spilled into the water at Bowen's Landing in Newport while a yacht was attempting to transfer fuel.

The Coast Guard says it was notified of the spill around 1:30 p.m. Friday by the crew of a 101-foot motor yacht.

Coast Guard crews are working with the state Department of Environmental Management, harbormasters and oil-spill recovery teams to determine the scope of the spill and clean it up.

The Coast Guard is investigating.
