CENTRAL FALLS, R.I. (WPRI) - A local soldier got a warm welcome home after spending several months in Afghanistan.

Army Specialist Dennis Weichel came home to Central Falls and surprised his two children at their school.  It took three weeks to plan but was well worth it after two months overseas.

Weichel went to Children's Workshop Central Falls Thursday afternoon to see his kids, 6 year-old Hope and 8 year-old Nicholas.

"I haven't seen my kids for a while and it's great to see them before I go back again," Weichel said.  He will be able to stay with them until January 2nd before he has to head back to Afghanistan for the remaining 11 months on his deployment.

Nicholas said that what he really wanted for Christmas was for his dad to come home - and it looks like he got exactly what he wanted.
