PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Barrington teen charged with second-degree murder in the boating death of his friend is ordered held without bail after he was charged with possessing alcohol over the weekend.
Ryan Greenberg is accused in the July 17 death of Patrick Murphy on the Barrington River, which authorities believe was alcohol-related. He has pleaded not guilty and was free on $100,000 personal recognizance bail.
Barrington police and prosecutors say he violated the conditions of his bail on Saturday when officers found the 17-year-old and a group of other teens with alcohol. Prosecutors say Greenberg failed to submit to a sobriety test.
Magistrate Judge Joseph Keough ordered Greenberg held without bail yesterday, rejecting a request that he be placed on home confinement.
He scheduled a bail violation hearing on May 1. Greenberg's attorney, William Dimitri, declined to comment.
