Traveling with kids doesn't have to be stressful

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - The summer months are a peak vacation time, but planning a trip with children doesn't have to be stressful.

Before you take off, it's important to keep safety and fun as your top priorities.

Here are some safety tips to keep in mind when traveling with children.

  • Be proactive. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says think about where you are going and what you are doing.
  • Don't forget extra sunscreen.
  • Take extra clothes and swimsuits, so you'll always be dry.
  • Pack smart. Always carry first aid gear, band-aids, antiseptic cream and wipes for little emergencies.
  • Don't forget your insurance cars and your family doctor's phone number.

The CDC suggests you see your doctor before you leave, especially if you or your children are on medications.

If you are headed overseas, check the websites of the CDC or U.S. State Department to see if you need any shots before going. And if you are in a foreign country or even at home, be careful of what you eat and drink.
