SMITHFIELD, RI (WPRI) - People living along Farnum Pike in Smithfield have been complaining to the state to make the road safer for drivers.

In the past seven years, there have been a total 20 accidents, including two fatalities on that stretch of road.

"Because of the curve, and because of the nature of the road, it's treacherous", said Jackie DiCenzo.

She was first on the scene at this deadly motorcycle accident in July.

Just up the road, there another memorial for another life lost when the driver went off the road.

"When people are getting killed and there's continuous accidents in the same stretch of road, when is it gonna stop? When is enough enough?", says Bob D'Amico.

Residents tell us they've been calling State Police and the Department of Transportation to ask them to at least put some signs up warning drivers of the dangerous curves ahead. After hitting several road blocks the residents decided to Call 12 for Action.

After contacting the Department of Transportation. Within days the state sent out a crew to do a field investigation.

After hours of watching drivers navigate along this dangerous road, the DOT determined more could be done to keep the drivers safe.

Crews installed several signs along the road.

"We don't want this to happen again obviously anywhere, but especially where it already happened at one location.", says RIDOT State Traffic Engineer Robert Rocchio.

Residents say they're just happy to see something was done and that their Call for Action made a difference.
