(WPRI) - When big retailers have a major data breach, it can send many consumers into a panic. However, simple planning can protect your information well before it becomes a problem.
TJ Maxx, Stop & Shop, and Bank of America have already fallen victim to these breaches, losing thousands of customer's private information in the process.
Before you head online to shop, make sure you are using different passwords for each website. Also, make sure to check your bank statements regularly to spot any irregularities.
As a precaution, look into downloading monitoring programs or apps that alert you whenever a purchase is made. That way, you may be able to spot a breach before your bank.
Data breaches happen more often than you think, but not all of them make headline news. Preparing ahead of time makes it easier to avoid disaster when it strikes.
