(WPRI) - According to a new report, 2011 was the deadliest year for furniture tip-overs.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has released the numbers, showing that 41 children were killed when TV's or other appliances toppled over.

To date, that is the highest number of fatalities due to unsecured furniture falling on children under 9.

Also included, alarming statistics show an increase in the amount of injuries. When broken down, the report shows that a child is injured because of a tip-over every three hours.

The majority of the time, it is a television. However, 26% of the objects are dressers or tables within the child's bedroom.

To keep your kids safe, make sure your furniture is safely anchored to the wall.
