RICHMOND, R.I. (WPRI) - A road officials didn't even know existed is starting to undergo repairs after state officials realized the road belongs to the state.

Old Usquepaugh Road in Richmond had been in poor shape for years, according to resident Meredith Westner. And when the historic floods came in March, the road got even worse.

Westner had been asking the state and the town for years to repair the road, but then Called 12 for Action.

Eyewitness News asked the state Department of Transportation to reexamine its maps to find out who owns the road — and, it turns out, it belongs to the state.

The state just recently began repaving the road and is now negotiating with the town to plow it.

The DOT is also working on gathering bids to repave the roadway in September.
