CFA: Are you a workaholic?

(WPRI) - With today's shakey economy, thousands of Americans are working extra hours just to pay the bills. Some are even turning to multiple jobs, but at what point does it become an addiction?

Psychologist Dr. Elizabeth Lombardo believes a number of factors contribute to an overwhelmingly stressed workforce. For example, many people blame the economy; Others fear they won't be able to find another job if they were to lose the one they have.

Researchers have developed a series of questions to determine whether or not you just enjoy your job, or if you are addicting to working:

How often do you...

  • hear others tell you to cut down on work?
  • become stressed if you are not working?
  • think of how you can free up more time to work?
  • spend less time enjoying leisure activities because of work?

If you answered often to most of the questions, it may be time to put your smartphone down and take a break. Remember to set limits for after-hours work and make you stick to them.
