(WPRI) - Before the internet, people looked to agencies and newspapers to help build their families through adoption.
Now, with the creation of social media, future family members could be discovered with the click of a button.
Social media sites have found a growing trend in adoption via the internet. Potential parents are posting their intentions on sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube in hopes that a pregnant woman might see their content.
However, before you head online, experts are reminding users that the trend is still emerging, making it hard to regulate the process. With no discernible standards, adopting via social media is not a legal agreement.
Given the legal nature of adoption, it is important to only use the sites as part of the process. Once a relationship has been established, it is recommended to seek an agency or attorney to finalize the adoption.
