PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI ) -- A dating scam continues to dupe thousands of women.

Special agents are asking people to be extra vigilant and not fall prey to an impersonation fraud that took a North Kingstown woman for thousands of dollars.

She thought the man of her dreams was an American soldier. He sent her pictures of himself in uniform and wrote her love messages.

The woman wired him money. Days later, she found out it was all a scam and he was pretending to be a soldier by using a stolen picture from the web.

The majority of these types of romance scams are on dating type websites, where unsuspecting females are the main target. The victims are most often women aged 30-55 years old.
