PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) - Greyhound racing at Twin River is going to be a hot topic this week at the Rhode Island State House.
Under Governor Donald Carcieri's budget plan, dog racing at the Lincoln Slot parlor would end. On Tuesday, a House committee will debate the issue.
Twin River has sought to end greyhound racing as it continues to recover from bankruptcy.
Back in June, the RI Greyhound Dog Owners Association was givenĀ the opportunity to continue racing at the gaming facility Twin River in Lincoln. Twin River would have had to give RIGOA annual payment of $2 million dollars for a period of three years.
Then, after that time, the facility would have available to RIGOA at no charge. The dog owners would then take responsibility for all expenses and recoup all the revenue.
RIGOA rejected the offer.
