East Greenwich, RI (WPRI) - Rhode Island high school students were given a chance to try out a number of hands on jobs during Wednesday’s Construction Career Day conducted by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation. This year marked the ninth straight edition of the event where students are given the opportunity to explore trade careers in fields including construction, plumbing, and landscaping.
Nearly 1,300 students are scheduled to visit RI-Dot’s Mid-state Facility in East Greenwich over the course of the two day event. Students will move from station to station trying out construction equipment and viewing demonstrations in welding, plumbing and electrical exercises.
RI-Dot hopes the event will introduce students to new jobs they
wouldn’t have originally considered after graduation and over
the past ten years nearly 300,000 students have attended the field
trip.
