PROVIDENCE, RI (WPRI) - Rhode Island is looking to hire 60 new correctional officers.
Gov. Lincoln Chafee and state correctional officials announced the efforts.
Years of budget constraints forced the state to delay the hiring of new officers but lawmakers have already secured the funding for new positions.
According to A.T. Wall, director of the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, Rhode Island prison guards have lower turnover rates than other states.
Positions offer good wages and benefits and the opportunity for advancement.
Applicants must complete and pass physical fitness tests and a background test, as well as a training course.
The Rhode Island Department of Corrections employs roughly 1,400 men and women and is the largest state agency.
