4G network to debut in Providence

Verizon will bring new network to area in November

PROVIDENCE, RI (WPRI) - Verizon Wireless will debut a large-scale 4G Long Term Evolution network (LTE) to the Providence area on November 17.

This network will debut in 21 communities across Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Communities that will receive this network include:

  • Central Falls
  • Cranston
  • Cumberland
  • East Providence
  • Lincoln
  • North Providence
  • Providence
  • Warwick

Massachusetts:

  • Attleboro
  • Easton
  • Dartmouth
  • Fall River
  • Mansfield
  • New Bedford
  • North Attleboro
  • Norton
  • Raynham
  • Seekonk
  • Swansea
  • Taunton
  • Westport

Verizon Wirless states that customers in these areas will experience speeds of up to 10 times faster than the companies' 3G network. Customers should be able to experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) for downloads and 2 to 5 mpbs on the uplink.

The new 4G network can be utilized by 13 different devices when it debuts in Providence on November 17.
