(WPRI) - Tommy Hilfiger has been giving the contestants on the number one show in the country style advice as they move closer and closer to being this years American Idol.

The Rhode Show caught up with the style guru and asked him about the dramatic change for Rhode Island's own Erika Van Pelt.  He said that he was so happy to have her embrace the new look and that viewers were also happy with the change.

Even though many fans were sad that Erika was voted off and did not make it into the top nine on the show, Tommy thinks the best thing for all of the contestants is to get a sense of style and develop it like Madonna, and many other A-list performers.

According to Hilfiger, the women on the show have been much more open to the fashion change and that the guys are a little bit closed off to the idea of change.
