Comic targets victims of station fire

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) - Hollywood stars hit the red carpet this weekend to roast actor Charlie Sheen. But, it was what one comedian said about the victims of the station nightclub fire that has families upset.

At a Comedy Roast for Charlie Sheen, reality star Steve-O, said, "The last time this many nobodies got roasted at least the band Great White was playing."

"This was not a joke this was a shot at innocent victims, these people only went to hear the music," said David Kane.

The joke was in reference to the night when 100 people were killed more then eight years ago, including Kane's son Nick.

"Being a comedian myself, I thought well when you do comedy you are going to offend somebody, but then when I saw the line that there was a shot referring to them as nobodies, it got my attention."

The roast was recorded this weekend, but is set to air on September 19th. Kane says his family is not looking for anything more than a little bit of respect.

"I'm hoping we get them to delete the line that's all."

Eyewitness News spoke with a representative at Comedy Central, she tells us the line will be removed from the final edit.

Steve-O has also issued an apology.
